NWMT: Former Champion Donny Lia Leads Final Whelen Modified Tour Practice at Thompson

Donny Lia was quickest in the final NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice on Saturday at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

Lia drove his No. 8 around the 5/8 mile oval with a fast time of 18.775 seconds (119.840 mph), slotting in at the top of the leaderboard. Just behind Lia was NASCAR XFINITY Series star Ryan Preece, who ran a fast time of 18.792 seconds (119.732 mph).

In just his second practice session with car owner Bob Garbarino, Jimmy Blewett was third fastest in the final practice round with a time of 18.819 seconds (119.560 mph). Flamingo Motorsports driver Timmy Solomito was fourth, with Rowan Pennink, who lead the first session, rounding out the top-five.

Ron Silk, Doug Coby, David Sapienza, Eric Goodale and Patrick Emerling completed the top-10.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track later this afternoon at 4 p.m., with qualifying for tomorrow’s IceBreaker 150. The feature is scheduled to go green around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday
