Defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby was fastest in the only practice session on Wednesday for tonight’s Thompson’s 125.

Coby, driver of the No. 2 Dunleavy Truck and Trailer Repair LFR Chassis modified, posted a fast time of 18.949 seconds around the 5/8 mile oval. Coby has won two of the four thus far in 2016 — both at Stafford Springs. He finished fourth at Thompson in April during the IceBreaker and finished eighth at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on May 14.

Behind Coby was young driver Brendon Bock, who ran a fast lap of 19.009 seconds. Ryan Preece, back on the NWMT after missing some events due to commitments on the NASCAR XFINITY Series, was third fastest (19.032 seconds).

Woody Pitkat, driver of the No. 85 Stuart’s Automotive modified, found himself fourth fastest (19.035 seconds) and rounding out the top-five was Tinio Racing driver Bobby Santos, behind the wheel of his No. 44.

Shawn Solomito posted a time good for sixth fastest and he was followed by Chase Dowling in seventh. Rowan Pennink, Timmy Solomito and Eric Goodale completed the balance of the top-10.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for Coors Light Pole Qualifying for the Thompson 125 later tonight at approximately 8:45 p.m. Fans can follow @RaceChaserNews on Twitter or visit the Facebook page for live updates.
