April 13, 2014 — official release — photo courtesy CTR — LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. — The weather has started to look a little more like spring, but not soon enough to save practice weekend at Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park for this coming weekend.
Crews were out at Can-Am late last week to remove snow from the front straightaway, but wet conditions look to be here for a while longer. And for Chris Thurston, that means racing is just around the corner.
Thurston’s car is nearing completion and will be ready to go for opening day on April 18th. Racing in New York State did get started this past weekend at some tracks, so racing is just around the corner.
Chris and the crew are keeping an eye on other race track schedules, hoping to get in a good day of practice before the April 18th opener. The team is waiting for a couple of rule clarifications from Can-Am officials so the final things can be finished up this weekend. While rebuilding the rear end, a bent spindle and broken hub were found, but both have been replaced and the fresh rear end is ready to go, with the team hoping all the work and changes made over the winter will make for a much more competitive season.
Chris has put together his most aggressive schedule in many years. Over 30 races at 7 different speedways are planned; along with weekly competition at Can-Am, Chris will venture to the Mohawk International Raceway, Utica-Rome Speedway, Rolling Wheels Raceway Park, Fulton Speedway, Canandaigua Speedway and the New York State Fairgrounds. More races have the potential to be added throughout the season.
The team sends a special thanks to RJW Enterprises and General Contractors, NorthCountry Custom, Patchen Painting, Fastlube of Watertown/Service Pro, Number One Speed, D&S Garage, Jesse’s Race Gear Service and Fabrication, Jiffy Dumpster Roll Off Containers, Zero 3 Motorsports , Dream Factory of Rochester, NY and Grandma and Grandpa Thurston.
