It seems like a long way away but April Test and Tune sessions at Seekonk Speedway will come quickly enough. Every year it seems like I say the same thing, “Wow the off-season went by fast.” Even though it’s still before Christmas, things for 2014 at “The Konk” are shaping up to be very exciting.

The season will open with two Test and Tune Sessions on April 5th and 19th. These tests have become crucial over the past couple of seasons, especially with the increased car counts. It’s a great chance to get some rubber down on the track and get the car moving before Opening Day rolls around.

2014’s Opening Day will look a little different then past seasons at Seekonk. The Sports Trucks and Street Stocks will run 25 laps, with the Late Models going 30 and the Pro Stocks going their normal 40-lap distance.

Normally, that would be the end of the program, but a new treat has been added. The Valenti Modified Racing Series will continue what will be an 11th season at Seekonk, with a 100 lap feature to close out the Opening Day afternoon. Sounds like a great treat.

The Valenti Modified Racing Series will also return to Seekonk on June 7th and August 16th

The regular season schedule sees the return of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series for the second season. This is a group of three extra distance races for each class, with extra cash up on the line, plus double points. Last season this proved big in the final tally of the standings at the end of the year. The Pro Stocks will highlight the Series with 3 65-lap features on June 21st, July 19th and August 9th.

Fast Friday has become a great family night atmosphere. They will once again return to the track in 2014, with the Triple Crown Series also on tap for the Friday gang. The Nick’s Pit Stop Legends and Pure Stocks will highlight those nights, along with the Sport 4’s and up and coming “MiniCup” SYRA classes.

In a bit of a different twist this season, the summer thrill show for Independence Day weekend will be on a Saturday night! This means that the Friday and Saturday race teams will get a week off and we can celebrate the holiday with a little excitement. The normal Sunday thrill shows with the Enduro and Spectator Drags will take place on May 25th, August 3rd, August 31st and October 11th for you daredevil fans.

The most highlighted event of the last 10 seasons will also make it’s return to the Action Track of the East in July. “Open Wheel Wednesday,” has become one of the biggest events in New England for Open Wheel fans. A big purse of $10,000 to win, along with this years added $50 per lap led, will make things very interesting. Past winners of this one include names such as Todd and Vinnie Annarummo, Doug Coby and Matt “Money” Hirschman.

The season will once again conclude with the Annual DAV Fall Classic Festival of Racing. This year without the VMRS being on the schedule, the day will be highlighted by a 100 lap Open Competition Pro Stock main event, with $5,000 up to the victor. That Pro Stock DAV race has seen some great racing in the past few seasons. They will be joined by the Trucks, Street Stocks and Late Models.

It’s on the horizon ladies and gentlemen, it’s gonna come fast. Action Track of the East, 2014, it’s going to be a good ride.
