July 15, 2013 – CCR Team PR – Pennsylvania native Garrett Smithley will return to Pocono International Raceway in Long Pond, PA, on August 2 for his second career ARCA race. His debut at Pocono in June resulted in a solid 17th place finish after overcoming multiple challenges including a last place start when qualifying and practice were rained-out. The 21-year old will once again drive the #74 Chevrolet Impala SS, prepared and operated by Creation-Cope Racing (CCR) from Mooresville NC, with his former U.S. Legend car sponsor, Peachtree City Golf Cars (GA) on the hood.
“I’m happy to be going back to Pocono with CCR under the guidance and expertise of Derrike Cope. Despite a lot of factors going against us in the first race I had a great run learning how to drive ‘The Tricky Triangle.’ Smithley said. “Pocono is a tough track, but we’re going to take our prior experience and build on that for the August race and having Peachtree City Golf Cars as our primary sponsor will be great! Derrike told me after the race that he was really pumped at how well I performed at Pocono.”
In the June race a tire got away from the crew and bounced across pit road resulting in a one lap penalty that quickly resulted in Smithley losing two laps. The team figured that cost a minimum of five positions, possibly more.
CCR Team Manager Andy Woolgar commented, “Garrett showed an enormous amount of composure and calmness in his inaugural ARCA Speedway race with Creation-Cope the first time around at Pocono and I think we can expect nothing less of him for his return. I think he will be more confident and ready to take on the field. We will give him the best means possible and look forward to what we hope will be another successful event.“
Smithley’s #74 Peachtree City Golf Cars Chevy will once again have HEROBOX.org on board as well as Curtsinger Trailer and Truck Sales, Zelk Visual Communications, Simpson Racing Products, Focus Eyewear and Racerboost.com. “We could really use one more solid sponsor to round out our team effort for Pocono and there are some great partnership opportunities for upcoming races, particularly Kentucky Motor Speedway in September,” Smithley said. “That will be our next big focus.”
Dave Marin, President of Peachtree City Golf Cars noted, ““We are proud of the role Peachtree City Golf Cars has played in helping advance Garrett’s racing career. We are looking forward to seeing another strong showing in the Pocono race, with hopefully much more to come.” Marin and daughter Abigail journeyed to Pocono to witness his ARCA debut in June.
The Pocono ARCA Modspace 125 race will be broadcast live on August 2nd at 5 p.m. nationally on Fox Sports Speed TV and will be repeated later that same night at 10 p.m.
