Fulton Speedway: Late Models To Run 50 Lap $1,000 To Win Special This Saturday

FULTON, NY – AUGUST 21, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – With just two point paying races left in the 2013 racing season, race teams are jockeying for championships, point positions and wins, all trying to build momentum heading into the 28th annual Outlaw 200 weekend October 4-5 at the Fulton Speedway.

On the race card on Burkes-Do-It-Best-Home Centers night will be the, Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and Four Cylinder Stocks. Thanks to Pit-Stop Convenience Stores, the NAPA Late Models will be running a special $1,000 to win 50 lap event. On top of the weekly purse, Case Marshall and the Marshall Companies, that includes Pit-Stop-Convenience Stores, will be adding $1,200 to the purse building up to the $1,000 winners prize. For the kids, the Home Depot will be on hand with the Home Depot Kids Workshop with fun activities for all of our Jr. fans.

Here is a quick look back at last Saturday and the points in each division coming into this week’s racing.

In the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified 35 lap feature Larry Wight made the winning pass on lap 14 driving by Ryan Phelps. Once in the leadWight was the class of the field winning by 5 seconds over teammate Billy Decker.

There was a huge victory lane celebration in the SUNY Canton Sportsman victory lane on Saturday. 2012 E&V Energy Novice Sportsman Champion Kyle Fink showed moving up a division was beneficial. Without the aid of a caution to tighten the field up, Fink erased a huge lead Jason Occhino had built-up by using the bottom lane of the speedway. After catching Occhino, Fink made the winning pass on lap 18of the 20 lap feature. For Kyle Fink it was his first ever SUNY Canton Sportsman feature victory.

Can anyone slow down Dale Caswell in the NAPA Late Models ? Last Saturday night, Caswell won his fifth straight feature and also became the divisions all-time feature winner with 12 wins. With a 50 lap $1,000 to win feature this week, you know they will be looking to unseat Caswell from victory lane.

Point leader Gary Hoppins put on a show early in the 15 lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman. After a yellow on the opening lap, Hoppins passed twelve cars when the green back out to move into the runner-up spot. On lap 5, he drove by Brandon Kuhn into the lead. Most people in attendance figured Hoppins would runaway and hide. Kuhn had other ideas and would throw everything he had at Hoppins. On the last lap Kuhn pulled even with Hoppins a couple of times, but Hoppins was a little too strong beating Kuhn by just 0.559 of a second at the checkers.

E&V Energy Novice Sportsman Point Standings – Gary Hoppins (784) Jeremy Dygert (733) Hilary Ward (606) Kyle Kiehn (606) Wade Chrisman (568). Jeremy Dygert has indicated that this week he will be moving up to the SUNY Canton Sportsman.

In just his rookie season, Kyle Young has been coming on as of late. He has his one career win at the Brewerton Speedway, and Saturday he won his second 15 lap Four Cylinder Stock feature. Young beat two of the best in the business, Chuck Powelczyk who has over 60 wins at Brewerton and defending Fulton champion and current points leader Skip DeGroff.

Laps are for sale for the 28th Annual, Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Plant Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton On Friday & Saturday, October 4-5. Adult admission Saturday, August 24 will be $12 for adults and everyone 18 years old and younger FREE. Pit admission is $25 Members/$30 Non-Members.
