In a surprising announcement, Tri Track Open Modified Series officials have revealed they will hold a fourth race as part of their 2015 season — a Sunday afternoon race on Sept. 13 at the newly-renamed New London-Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Connecticut.

“(The Waterford event) will be a non-points race,” said Tri Track series promoter James Schaefer. “Teams that have already pre-entered with the Tri Track Open Modified Series will not have an additional entry fee for this race.”

Even though the purse collection is in its beginning stages, Schaefer said he expects the purse to be around $5,000 for the winner of the race. If everyone pre-registers, the lion’s share could boost to as much as $10,000.

The Waterford Speedbowl re-opened for racing after an appeal was denied by a Connecticut judge.  The track will be open under the NASCAR Home Tracks banner in 2015.

The Tri Track Open Modified Series is a three race series for open-wheel modifieds that will compete at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, May 17, Monadnock Speedway on Saturday, June 13, and at the Seekonk Speedway on Wednesday, July 1 — where the points battle will wrap up.  The Waterford date on September 13 will be the fourth race the series will run in 2015.
