‘Battle at the Bullring’ Set to Challenge Racers at Oswego Kartway

OSWEGO, NY (August 1, 2013) – Oswego Kartway returns to action on Friday with the running of the R.J. Kart Sales & Service ‘Battle at the Bullring.’

The annual ‘Battle at the Bullring’ has become the second of three crown jewel events at the Kartway, joining the ‘King of the Kartway’ in June and August’s ‘Kartway Classic.’ With a set of plaques on the line for the top three finishers in the ‘Battle’ main events, this Friday’s event has become a must win on the list of several kart racers in the area.

Different from weekly competition at the Kartway, which uses a points earned handicap system to line-up heat and feature events, the ‘Battle at the Bullring’ utilizes time trials to line up the mains straight-up with the fastest qualifier on the pole. This system is used as a warm-up for the ‘Kartway Classic’ and quite often makes the event more attractive for out of town racers who now have a chance to start their feature event from the front row.

Unlike in year’s past, this year’s running of the ‘Battle at the Bullring’ will count toward the overall point championship at the Kartway. With several rainouts this season, it was determined to include Friday’s race on the point schedule, with time trials awarding points in the same fashion as a heat race would on a normal night.

In looking at the championship standings a handful of divisions are still locked in tight battles with only four events remaining in the point season.

Alex Losurdo managed to extend his lead slightly on Ryan Perkins in the Jr. Blue Clone division with a last lap pass for the win one week ago. Losurdo leads Perkins by only 24-points in the battle for the championship as Seth Perrin, Katelynn Stevens, and Britney Baum round out the top five.

Ron Abbott now leads the Stock Heavy division by 12-points over Dan Kapuscinski, who opted to run the Stock Light division last Friday. Kapuscinski will run both the Stock Heavy and Stock Light events in the ‘Battle at the Bullring’ on Friday.

The Animal division sees just a 5-point difference now between leader Cris Lane and Ron Billings. Billings picked up his second main event win of the season last Friday night, and holds an 8-point edge on BJ Ingersoll for the runner-up position.

The Clone Light division continues to be a see-saw battle between Takota Jacobson and Kaylynn Simmons. Jacobson picked up another feature win last Friday and recaptured the point lead now by a slim 7-point margin on Simmons.

The ‘Battle at the Bullring’ will now have even more significance with championship points on the line in all divisions as the race toward HRW Construction Championship Night continues.

Friday’s racing, presented by R.J. Kart Sales & Service, will see pit gates open at 4:30pm, hot laps begin at 6:30pm, and racing take the green at 7:30pm.

Entry fees this Friday will be $20 for members and $23 for non-members with pit passes set at $10. AMB transponders are available for rental at $10 and each kart must be equipped with one in order to be scored.
