Palermo, N.Y. 360 sprint car driver Sammy Reakes IV had a season to remember in 2015. ‘The Honeybadger’ scored his first Patriot Sprint Tour series championship, winning the American Series and netting nearly $6,000 at the PST banquet several months ago.
Reakes and team also picked up the Mechanic of the Year Award, Hard Luck Award and even the Best Appearing Car Award before all was said and done at the banquet. It was a season that Reakes will not soon forget, as his team continues to learn and improve their efforts driving sprint cars on a traveling tour.
One highlight without a doubt for Reakes was also getting to step into a Sportsman Modified for one last trip around the Moody Mile, back in October for the Finale at the Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y. Reakes teamed up with Bob Reis from Freedom Motorsports Park to field an entry and qualifying for the Feature event, amongst a stout field of 90+ entries.
2016 will look a bit different as far as schedule goes for ‘The Honeybadger’ as Reakes’ team looks to race closer to home, and cut back a little bit on the miles traveled. Fans should still plan to see Reakes competing on the regular, but it’s likely to see the team mix up their schedule with races on both the Patriot Sprint Tour as well as the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints. Reakes wants to race in front of his hometown fans and sponsors as much as possible with a renewed confidence coming off their first series title.
