Even though New England has been seeing snow for the past few weeks, there is one race shop in Tiverton, Rhode Island that has been open and working.

Ray Parent, former American Canadian Tour Invitational Winner at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway back in 2012, has been preparing his Amtrol #17RI to head south for competition at the annual World Series of Asphalt Racing at the New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway in February.

The 41-year-old Parent’s career in New England has been mostly behind the wheel of Pro Stocks, beginning at his home track of Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts.  He has not forgotten his home track and will often make appearances during the off weeks of the ACT Tour.

“I always love going back to Seekonk,” Parent said. “It is where I grew up racing. The competitors are really tough to race there.”

The 41-year-old returned to Seekonk for two races in 2014 and won both in the Late Model division.

He has competed on the ACT Tour since back in 2006 and has quickly become one of the drivers in contention at each and every event. His first full-time season was 2011 and he explained that the reason he decided to go ACT racing was because they were going to New Smyrna to start the season.

“We really got our butt kicked,” Parent said of his first trip to Florida. “We went down there expecting to do well. This time we definitely have our stuff together and I am surrounded by good people.”

Parent has had success at New Smyrna in the past running during the World Series week. Back in 2008, he was third in the overall Late Model standings after nine nights of action, and is excited about the opportunity to head back to the World Series.

Parent also mentioned that his son will be starting to get behind the wheel in 2015.

“We’re working on getting my son’s legend car ready for next season,” Parent added. “If we can we will run the full Friday season with Raymond Jr. in the Legend Car.”

His 2014 season consisted of nine races on the ACT tour, where he grabbed one feature win at Airborne Speedway. He also collected four top ten finishes and one top five after leading over 200 laps.

“We’re really proud of the fact that we were able to complete every lap of the season,” Parent expressed.

Parent mentioned that sponsors and sponsor appearances are a big part of his racing season.

“Amtrol out of Warwick, Rhode Island is such a great company and they employ a lot of people,” Parent said. “Without them we would never be able to put this together. We do ten to fifteen appearances outside the race track with them.”
