LONG POND, Pa. – official release – ARCA photo — A pair of 17-year-olds will be making their superspeedway debut this weekend at Pocono Raceway after successfully completing tests at the track earlier in the week.
Matt Tifft and Cody Coughlin are the two 17-year-olds making their first laps on a superspeedway after previously racing only on short tracks and, in Tifft’s case, a road course.
ARCA rules allow approved 17-year-olds to race at both Pocono Raceway and Kentucky Speedway. To get approved, drivers must test at the track and be approved by ARCA officials.
Tifft was among the 10 fastest cars in both the morning and afternoon test sessions at Pocono Raceway Wednesday. Coughlin turned more than 30 laps during his test session and also was approved to race by ARCA officials.
Both Tifft and Coughlin are both SCOTT Rookie of the Race candidates.
