MOORESVILLE, N.C. — official release — Mason Mitchell Motorsports photo — It’s been 40 years since an Iowa native captured the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship, but second-year driver Mason Mitchell hopes to erase that drought Friday night in the ARCA 98.9 at the Kansas Speedway and become the third Iowa native to capture ARCA’s top prize.

Mitchell and his first-year Mason Mitchell Motorsports team brings a 200-point lead into the race and need to finish 35th or better to claim their first championship.

“This is what we have worked for all season long,” Mitchell said when asked about the championship.  “We decided to bring the car that won Chicagoland in July to Kansas, we haven’t raced it since the win. We will continue to do what we have done all season long — try and win the race and the points will take care of themselves. Kansas Speedway is about three hours from West Des Moines; we have a lot of family and friends coming and we want to give them a show.”

The 20-year-old made is 1.5 mile debut at Kansas in 2012 starting tenth and finishing seventh. Last year Mitchell started from the 12th position and finished second in the rain shortened event.

Mitchell earned his 10th front row start of 2014 at Kentucky by qualifying in the second position. Mitchell led the first lap earning five bonus points before settling into the fourth position. Mitchell ran inside the top-five all evening and finished third for his eleventh top-five finish of the 2014 season.

Mitchell was able to extend his point lead to 200 over Grant Enfinger following Kentucky. Entering the final race of the season all Mitchell has to do is finish 35th or better to lock up the championship.

Mitchell will strap back behind the wheel of chassis No. 593 Friday evening at the Kansas Speedway. The chassis has three starts in 2014 with three top-five finishes and a win at Chicagoland Speedway in July.

Mason Mitchell Motorsports welcomes a new sponsor this week, Go Puck. Designed by the award-winning Lithium Ion battery engineer, the GO PUCK is truly racing technology in the palm of your hand.
