March 6, 2014 — KINGSPORT, Tenn. — The start to the 2014 racing season at both Kingsport Speedway and Lonesome Pine (Coeburn, Va.) Raceway is quickly approaching, and helping to kick off what promises to be an outstanding racing campaign at both “The Concrete Jungle” and LPR will be the Kingsport Town Center (formerly known as Ft. Henry Mall) – Kingsport Speedway and Lonesome Pine Raceway Race Car Show on Saturday, March 8.
The daylong extravaganza will feature a street festival type atmosphere inside the Kingsport Town Center.
Ervin and Keith Stiltner will operate both tracks this season, with Karen Tunnell holding down duties as general manager and promoter of each facility. The Stiltners and Tunnell will be present, along with several drivers displaying their race cars and meeting fans.
Kingsport Speedway is the only weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series sanctioned concrete surfaced short-track in the United States, and week-in and week-out you just can’t beat the exciting racing action at the .375-mile banked track in the Model City.
Previously sanctioned by NASCAR from 1990-99 and 2002-04, LPR is back in the fold with NASCAR sanctioning for this season.
“I want to thank the Kingsport Town Center for hosting the Kingsport Speedway and Lonesome Pine Raceway Race Car Show,” said GM and promoter Tunnell. “It’s really going to be a great opportunity for the local race fans to come out and get geared up for the exciting season of racing we have planned at each track. We’re going to have several race cars on display.”
“Fans will enjoy getting to take close-up looks at the cars and also getting to shake hands and meet the drivers to get autographed hero cards and other items. The start of a new racing season will be here before you know it, so by all means everybody will want to come out and get a sneak peek at the new race cars that will be in action at both tracks.”
The 2014 season-opener at Kingsport Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, which will be an afternoon of racing. The regular weekly racing programs, set to run through mid-September, will switch to Friday nights beginning April 4. LPR will roar into action on Saturday, April 12.
The tracks’ racing programs will feature action in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock, Street Stock, Mod 4, Pure 4, Rookie Pure 4, Iron Warrior and Pure Street.
The Kingsport Town Center, host for the Kingsport Speedway and LPR Race Car Show, is located at 2101 Ft. Henry Drive. The race cars will be displayed on Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both the lower and upper levels. It will be a full day of fun for the entire family, and be sure while at the Kingsport Town Center to shop and support the local businesses.
