GEORGETOWN, Del. — Following the track’s first season under new ownership, Georgetown Speedway officials have released a nine race schedule for the upcoming season, starting with two open test sessions in March.
Located in Georgetown, Del., the track will kick off their much-anticipated 2017 calendar with the marquee Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Race on March 11, also serving the season opening event for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Velocita South Region.
Despite taking a break during the April month, the half-mile dirt circuit will rocket back into action on Thursday, May 11 for the Super Late Model Tri-State Challenge — a three race series for Super Late Models contested at Georgetown, Potomac Speedway, and Winchester Speedway.
Highlighting the schedule, and making their first appearance at the track, will be the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series, hosting the Fulton Bank 40 on Thursday, Aug. 17. Drivers including Brandon Sheppard and former series champions Shane Clanton and Rick Eckert are expected to make the haul to the First State for the event.
For the fourth consecutive season, the ‘Blast at the Beach’ for the Short Track Super Series Velotia South Region will also be held again at Georgetown on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Last season, Stewart Friesen triumphed in the highly competitive event.
The track will conclude their season with the second annual Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend, Oct. 28th-29th,a two-day event with features for the Small-Block Modifieds, Big-Block Modifieds, Super Late Models, Crate 602 Sportsman, Crate Late Model, Super Trucks, and Little Lincolns divisions.
With the continued ownership of Brett Deyo and BD Motorsports Media LLC, Georgetown is in store to deliver another breakthrough season in 2017, as the pairing continues to restore the luster of dirt track racing in Delaware.
