ABINGDON, Va. — Martin-McClure Racing announced Wednesday that Max Papis will pilot the team’s No. 13 Toyota in Friday’s Finger Lakes Wine Country 100 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Watkins Glen Int’l.

Papis has been involved in motorsports for a number of years, with experience in Formula 1, the Verizon IndyCar Series and all three NASCAR national series, as well as the former Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, where he won the championship in 2004 alongside Scott Pruett.

His best NASCAR finish was a runner-up effort at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 2010, driving for Kevin Harvick Incorporated.

“We are excited to have a driver of his caliber join us for the upcoming Watkins Glen event,” said team co-owner Eric McClure. “With Max’s experience on road courses, he’ll be able to give valuable feedback so we can both strengthen our road course package and have our best shot at a strong finish. The pressure is on this weekend, but our team is ready.”

“Max is an expert on the road courses and a talented athlete,” added co-owner Hal Martin. “Max is what I consider to be a road course specialist, and he will be able to put his skills to good use this weekend. I look forward to the race and to the opportunity for a strong showing.”

Friday will mark Papis’ K&N East debut, and he will be under the direction of crew chief Matt Weber for the event.

“It’s great to be back behind the wheel of a NASCAR race car,” said Papis. “I’m looking forward to helping Eric & Hal as they develop their program and their goals of NASCAR team ownership.”
