KNPSE: Rookie Zane Smith Tops New Smyrna K&N East Practice

NEW SMYRNA, Fla. –  Making his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut on Sunday, Zane Smith was the fastest overall in practice for Sunday’s Jet Tools 150 at New Smyrna Speedway.

Smith, driver of the No. 43 Diamondback Towing Toyota, topped the speed chart in opening practice and finished out the final session seventh on the speed chart. His overall best time was 18.410 seconds (93.862 mph).

Tyler Dippel, who was the highest finishing rookie in last year’s point standings, was second overall on Sunday with an overall best time of 18.448 seconds (93.669 mph). He was ninth in opening practice and led the way in final practice.

Ronnie Bassett Jr. was third with an overall best time of 18.473 seconds (93.542 mph). Bassett finished third last season during the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Smyrna Speedway.

Rounding out the top-five were Dillon Bassett and Harrison Burton. They were followed by Sheldon Creed, defending race winner Todd Gilliland, Derek Kraus, Vinnie Miller and Spencer Davis.

Group qualifying for the Jet Tools 150 at News Smyrna Speedway begins at 5:05 p.m.

Heading into Sunday night, Gilliland holds the one-lap qualifying record at New Smyrna, with a lap of 18.318 seconds at 94.333 mph.
