KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Richard Petty Motorsports announced Sunday morning that Aric Almirola was diagnosed with a compression fracture of the T5 vertebra after his hard crash in the second half of the Go Bowling 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Almirola has been released from a local Kansas hospital and will fly back to his home in Mooresville, N.C. to follow-up with his doctors.

The team statement said that Almirola is mobile, despite the injury. No word was given on whether Almirola will have to miss any races, nor who would drive the car in his absence should the situation call for a substitute driver.

Further updates will be provided when available.
