LE MANS, France – official release — MotoGP photo — Another race, another pole start for the dominant Marc Marquez.
The Repsol Honda rider and defending MotoGP World Champion earned his fifth consecutive pole to start the MotoGP season Saturday at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit with a remarkable 1:32.042 time, destroying the previous track record in the process.
Marquez was .692 of a second clear of rookie Pol Espargaro, who secured his best MotoGP starting position to date. Making good use of the extra soft tire, Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso qualified .713 of a second behind Marquez to take the final spot on the front row.
The second row features Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP), who has recovered quickly from arm pump surgery since Jerez, with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) reaching his personal target of qualifying in the top five as he slots in behind the German. Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was .857 of a second off pole in sixth place.
Making up an all Spanish the third row are Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini), top Open rider Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team).
