BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Belardi Auto Racing has announced that second generation open-wheel driver Chad Boat will join the team for two Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires oval starts this season.
Boat will make his series debut at Iowa Speedway on July 9, followed by a start in the No. 84 Dallara IL-15 at Gateway Motorsports Park on Aug. 26.
Pristine Auction, the leading autographed sports memorabilia auction house in the country, will serve as the primary sponsor for both events.
“We’re extremely pleased to announce the addition of Chad Boat to our stable of drivers for the Iowa and Gateway Indy Lights oval races this summer,” said team owner Brian Belardi. “It’s exciting to have a second-generation driver running with us, and we’re certainly looking forward to getting Chad on track in Iowa.”
Boat, 25, is a former Rookie of the Year in both the USAC National Midget and National Sprint Car divisions and adds the two Indy Lights events to his full-time USAC National Midget schedule this season.
He has previously competed at Iowa in the stock car ranks, but is also participating in a team test at the 0.894-mile Newton oval prior to his series debut in two weeks’ time.
“I grew up watching my dad race Indy cars, so having the opportunity to run Indy Lights this year is absolutely surreal,” said Boat. “I have to thank Belardi Auto Racing for giving me a shot behind the wheel of the No. 84 Dallara, as well as Pristine Auction for their continued support in my racing career. I can’t wait to get to Iowa Speedway.”
The Phoenix, Ariz. native is following in the footsteps of his father Billy, who scored a win and nine poles in his eight-year Verizon IndyCar Series career and finished fourth in the championship in 2001.
