It hasn’t taken long for the defending Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic champion to lock himself in for a chance at back-to-back victories.

California’s Kyle Hirst is the first officially nominated driver for the Classic on Jan. 22-24, 2016.

Hirst will again be at the wheel of the Monte Motorsport/Milwaukee Tools-backed No. W17 machine, as he aims to become the first repeat winner of the Classic since Kerry Madsen in 2007 and ’08.

Hirst was basically guaranteed another shot at Classic glory, following the announcement from Monte Motorsport on May 1, that he would be returning to drive for the team during the Australian summer and now he is simply looking forward to strapping in and giving team principal Luch Monte and all their supporters another exciting ride.

“When we saw that entries had opened for the Classic, we wanted to make sure we got in early to let those at Premier Speedway Club know just how much of an important date the Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic is on the Monte Motorsport Milwaukee Tools race schedule,” Hirst said. “The Classic is the biggest race I have ever won. I truly feel that it is the Australian equivalent of the Knoxville Nationals, so to win it is a pretty amazing feeling and having my name, along with Monte Motorsports, as a part of the events history is awesome.”

The fact that Hirst’s car owner, Luch Monte, is a five-time winning car owner at the Classic is another reminder for Hirst that the Monte Motorsport team will be hungry for more success.

“We are certainly focused on coming back and trying to repeat what we did last year.”
