TriStar Motorsports announced Thursday the team has made an immediate driver change in their No. 44 Zachry Toyota, with J.J. Yeley taking over the reins of the ride from former driver David Starr.

Yeley drove the No. 44 Zachry Toyota last weekend at Richmond International Raceway, earning a 12th place finish in a substitute role, while Starr has been released from his contract with TriStar Motorsports.

Starr joined the team full-time in 2015 and had competed in seven races to-date in 2016, with a best finish of 17th that had the veteran driver ranked 20th in the XFINITY points standings entering this weekend’s Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

“We have made significant changes in an effort to improve our overall program,” said team owner Mark Smith. “With our commitment to our sponsor, we felt that an immediate change was necessary. We have every confidence in the team we have assembled and we will continue to pursue our competitive goals. We wish David all the best in his career and we will announce further plans as they are confirmed.”
