NSCS: Two for Two; Hamlin Adds Another Pole to Bristol Weekend

Denny Hamlin took home the Coors Light Pole Award at Bristol Motor Speedway for Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Irwin Tools Night Race (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

Hamlin took the pole position with a fast lap of 131.407 mph in the final round of qualifying, which set a new track record. This is Hamlin’s second pole of the 2015 season and the 22nd of his career. It is also his third pole position at the 0.533-mile track. Hamlin also won the pole for Friday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series Food City 300.

Joe Gibbs Racing continued its hot run taking the top three spots with Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards grabbing the second and third starting positions.

David Ragan will be in Row 2, with Team Penske teammates Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski making up Row 3.

Last week’s Michigan winner Matt Kenseth did not advance to the final round of qualifying and wlll start 13th. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (starting 20th), Martin Truex Jr. (starting 23rd) and Jeff Gordon (starting 24th) did not advance to the final round of qualifying.

Paul Menard appeared to hit the wall in Round 1 and he will start 29th. Tony Stewart did not advance out of the first round of qualifying and will lineup 40th, his worst starting spot since the July Daytona race in 2012.

The three cars that failed to make the 43-car field were Jeb Burton, Travis Kvapil and Reed Sorenson.
