CONCORD, N.C.– On Wednesday afternoon, NASCAR officials assessed a level P2 penalty to the No.78 Furniture Row Racing team and driver Martin Truex Jr., after failing their post-race pass through the Laser Inspection Station (LIS), following Saturday’s Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway
The penalty entails, a point deduction in both 10 drivers and owners championship points as well as a $15,000 fine for crew chief Cole Pearn.
The penalty however, will have no impact on the two-time winner this season, as Turex Jr’s eligibility in the Chase or seeding will not be affected as the penalty was deemed during the regular season and points were deducted before the Chase grid reset.
Driver Regan Smith and the No.7 Tommy Baldwin Racing team were given a written warning for failing the LIS three times in pre-qualifying at RIR. As a result the team will lose 15-minutes of practice time at Chicagoland Speedway.
Other penalties from this past weekend include, the No.16 of Greg Biffle, the No.18 of Kyle Busch and the No.22 of Joey Logano were all assessed written warnings for failing LIS twice in pre-qualifying. No further action was necessary deemed by NASCAR.
