One of the most consistent drivers in the NASCAR PEAK Antifreeze Series — and a fan favorite, to boot — will not be continuing down the road towards $10,000 in 2015.

Drill Aisle team member and NPAS veteran Brian Schoenburg, driver of the No. 55 ProGeek Consulting Chevrolet SS, announced on Monday that he will be pulling out of full-time competition in the series, effective immediately. The veteran compiled a record of 17 top fives and 40 top tens in 87 career starts, posted four career championship points finishes of 11th or better (from 2010-2013) and has competed in every NPAS season since the series’ inception in 2010.

“A number of factors including a pretty bad start to this year have helped make this decision,” Schoenburg said in a statement. “The number one thing though, is because it isn’t near as fun for me as it used to be. It honestly isn’t even remotely close to the same series as it was when it started.”

Schoenburg did leave the door open to competing in select events going forward, but says it will be on his terms.

“I still may run some races at the tracks I really still do enjoy and I’ll definitely [still] run the NIS Races and things like that. I had four really good seasons, including a run of eleventh, sixth, fifth and fifth in the final series standings from 2010 to 2013, even though I never won a race.”

“That’s the one thing that really stands out — is not getting that win, even though we were close a bunch of times.”

From the team he started to a restructured operation at the start of 2015, there were bumps in the road, but the veteran is quite clear about what he wants his legacy to be going forward — even if he won’t be in the series as a regular.

“I [simply] hope I’ll be remembered as an exciting driver that just enjoyed being with my team and having a fun time,” Schoenburg smiled.

The Drill Aisle is still scheduled to compete full-time in 2015 with drivers Michael Conti, Danny Hansen, Tom Lewandowski, Brad Davies and Byron Daley.

  1. Nice to see Brian taking a step down. Get some fresh blood in the premier series instead of someone just taking up a spot. Glad he knew when to call it quits.
