NASCAR Sprint Cup: Bowyer Wins Sprint Showdown, Allmendinger Also Transfers to 30th Annual All-Star Race

CONCORD, N.C. — official release — Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images photo — Clint Bowyer and AJ Allmendinger placed first and second in the Sprint Showdown on Friday night, respectively, and will advance to the Sprint All-Star Race on Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

This was Bowyer’s first time winning the Sprint Showdown. Saturday night will be the Kansas native’s sixth trip to the Sprint All-Star Race, while it will be Allmendinger’s third appearance in the non-points spectacular.

Casey Mears just missed the cut coming in third. Sprint Cup Series rookie Austin Dillon, who started on the pole, finished eighth in his first Sprint Showdown.

Qualifying for the Sprint All-Star Race will be Saturday at 7:10 p.m. (FOX Sports 1). The Sprint All-Star Race will be kick off later in the evening at 9:10 p.m. ET with coverage beginning on FOX Sports at 9 p.m. ET.
