Jacob Wilson captured his fourth career Engine Pro Fast Qualifier Award during Wednesday evening’s time trials for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series at Anderson Speedway, which will help set the field for the Ivy Tech 60 presented by Sam Pierce Chevrolet coming up later in the night.

Wilson was fourth-quick in practice and by virtue of that went out eighth of 12 cars in the qualifying session, but left no question as to who the fastest man in town was after setting a lap on his warm-up that would have been good enough for the pole, and then backing it up by going quicker on both timed laps.

The official lap of record was a clip of 10.557 seconds (85.251 mph), the quickest lap of the week for winged sprint cars but well off of the all-time Anderson Speedway track record of 10.168 seconds, set by JoJo Helberg in 2012.

“It was a good lap, but we’re still thrashing and doing some work on it,” said Wilson, who rolled a six on the inversion die and will start from the outside of row three providing the top six in qualifying finish their heat races. “Track position is everything here so we’ll just work with what we’ve got … there’s a lot of fast cars here so we’ve got our work cut out for us, but we’ll be up there — don’t you worry about that.”

David Byrne, who set the quickest lap in practice earlier in the day, clocked in second-fastest on his qualifying run with a best time of 10.593 — just four hundredths of a second slower than Wilson. Byrne last competed with Must See Racing at Rockford (Ill.) Speedway last October and will be looking for his first series win come feature time on Wednesday night.

Reigning series champion Jimmy McCune was third on the scoreboard with his best lap of 10.710. McCune is hunting his fourth-consecutive win at Anderson and second-straight triumph in the Ivy Tech 60, after sweeping all three Must See Racing events at the high-banked quarter-mile in 2015.

Aaron Pierce salvaged a fourth-place effort in qualifying after a spin on his warm-up lap, and Chris Neuenschwander rounded out the Fast Five in Ron Koehler’s No. 10 ‘Spirit of America’ Special.

The Ivy Tech 60 presented by Sam Pierce Chevrolet is slated to get the green flag around 9 p.m. ET tonight. Live updates on the race can be found on Twitter by following @MustSeeRacing or @RaceChaserNews.
