TROY, Mich. – official series release — Midwest Indoor Racing Series photo —
The Welcome to 2015 Race Weekend is set for Jan. 17 as Motor City Racing Promotions and the Midwest Indoor Racing Series prepares for the 2015 portion of the 2014/2015 Winter Racing Season.
Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Mich., will serve as hosts once again as the Southern Michigan facility will be the site for race three of the winter campaign out of the four total events planned for the series’ third season.
The 600cc Mini Sprints will once again highlight the weekend with a special 50-lap feature paying $500 to win. During the Thanksgiving Classic Weekend on Nov. 27-28, Peter Hathaway scored a dramatic first MIRS victory in the Saturday headlining 50-lap main after being passed by Friday night Thanksgiving Shootout winner, Drew Dorsett with three laps to go. Hathaway would respond by passing Dorsett right back to pick up the victory.
The Great Lakes Tire Go-Karts are back and the divisions will remain the same as they were on Thanksgiving Weekend as the 360s, which boasted a stellar 27-car field during the Thanksgiving Classic Weekend, will go for a cool $500 top prize. They’ll be joined by the remaining Go-Kart divisions of Opens, Heavy Clones, Senior Caged, Junior Caged, Gold Plate and Purple Plate classes.
The Quarter Midgets return and those divisions will also stay the same as they were back on Thanksgiving Weekend. The Junior Honda, Senior Honda, Light 160, Heavy 160, Senior Animal, Junior Animal and Heavy Honda classes will all be competing. Also on the card will be the Arena/Mini Cup Cars, Midwest Classic Racer (MCR)-Type Dwarf Cars and the Lawn Mowers will return as well.
There will be an optional practice day reserved for Jan. 16 with Pit Gates opening at 12 p.m., and rotating practice running from 4-9 p.m. Pit passes are just $10.
