TOOELE, Utah — By Jason Christley, NASCAR — Getty Images for NASCAR photo — Greg Pursley won his 20th career Coors Light Pole Award Saturday and re-established himself as the driver to beat Saturday in the Energy Solutions Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park.
Pursley, who was second fastest to David Mayhew in practice earlier in the day, posted a lap of 1 minute, 33.953 seconds (84.297 mph) around the 2.2-mile course. Pursley has three wins, a second and a fourth in five career starts at Miller.
It’s Pursley’s second career pole at Miller and his third pole of the season.
Rookie James Bickford qualified second at 1:34.391 (83.906), followed by his teammate Dylan Lupton at 1:34.397 (83.901).
Pursley enters the afternoon’s race 15 points ahead of Lupton with three races remaining.
Mayhew qualified fourth and Brandon McReynolds fifth.
Austin Cameron, Brett Thompson, Thomas Martin, Dave Smith and Todd Souza rounded out the top 10.
The green flag for the Energy Solutions Utah Grand Prix is scheduled for 4:35 p.m. MT.
