Photo Credit Formula3.co – January 17, 2014 IndyCar Media PR – Colombian driver Carlos Huertas will get his first taste of an IndyCar Series car when he joins Panther Racing for a Chevrolet manufacturer test at Sebring International Raceway on Jan. 17.
Huertas, a 22-year-old from Bogota, Colombia, will join Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya and Will Power, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Charlie Kimball and Ryan Briscoe, Ed Carpenter Racing’s Mike Conway and KV Racing Technology’s Sebastien Bourdais at Sebring. Takuma Sato is also slated to test for A.J. Foyt Racing.
“Carlos is a driver with a lot of potential,” Panther Racing team principal John Barnes said. “He’s been impressive racing in World Series of Renault over the past couple of years. We’re looking forward to getting Carlos behind the wheel and seeing what he can do with the No. 4 car.”
Huertas has spent the last two seasons in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, part of the World Series by Renault (WSR). He earned his first victory at the Motorland Aragon round in Spain in 2013.
“This is an awesome opportunity for me, and Panther Racing is a quality team,” said Heurtas, who spent several days with the team at its Indianapolis shop to prepare for the test. “It’s been good to get to know the crew, and we’ve been working hard to prepare for Friday. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and ready to get out on track.”
