Hickory, N.C. – One of the coolest things about short-track racing is that you see so many whole families involved in a hands-on sort of way. Even cooler is when multiple generations have such an impact on one track that their name starts to become synonymous with the facility. Hickory Motor Speedway is one of America’s most fabled tracks and the name “Huffman” is just about in the track’s DNA.
Carrying on the traditions built by his father and grandfather, 17-year-old Landon Huffman is slowly building a name for himself racing in the ultra-competitive Limited Late Model division. 2013 is his first full season of competition, and Landon’s proven to be a quick study. He currently sits second in the track’s points standings behind friend and fellow young competitor Shane Lee, with one win and and numerous second and third place finishes.
Watching Landon and Shane race side by side this year is like watching the Bruins and Blackhawks fight over the Stanley Cup – they work each other hard but you’ll never see either of them intentionally cross a line.
We’ll hear from Shane later this week on RaceChaser Online. Today was Landon’s day for a chat with Editor-In-Chief Tom Baker and the passion, determination and humility come through loud and clear.
