2014 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards champion Mason Mitchell was presented a Key to the City of West Des Moines at a council meeting yesterday for his efforts in 2014.
Mitchell became the third Iowa native to win ARCA’s top crown and the first in forty years.
“This is truly an honor,” Mitchell said after receiving the Key to the City Monday evening. “West Des Moines is the best city I have ever been to. Being able to grow up here is something I will always cherish. This award is going in the trophy case right next to the 2014 championship trophy.”
Mitchell was the model of consistency during his championship run, earning one win (Chicagoland), 12 top-fives, 18 top-10s and five pole awards. Mitchell accomplished these feats with his first-year Mason Mitchell Motorsports team, which was formed less than three months before the season’s opening race at Daytona.
Mitchell is currently pursuing opportunities to run full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the 2015 season.
